Birthdays

What is it about singing Happy Birthday that brings out the shyness in all of us. It is understandable that the birthday person gets embarassed a little, but why the singers? Three years in college and two years in grad school and i have never seen my friends singing unabashedly. Quite shocking at first, but it was always the sisters and nuns in college who got into the spirit of singing and always managed to sing without any inhibitions, while the rest of us will either be looking down or glancing left and right and mumbling the song.

Interesting observation! I don't remember me being very shy or embarrassed about singing. If anything I would only raise my voice to embarrass the person on stage. But I feel some of them do. I think it is more to do with the act of singing in public. We never get around to sinf in public. may be it is that!
