Crossing the line

In a normal conversation with your close friends, where do you draw the line with respect to insults and humour?

True, its very subjective. You can call someone a b**** like an endearment, but if you call someone else that, then rest assured that the latter will never speak to you again.

Most of the jokes cracked are based on some deficiency, be it physical or mental. In a close knit group, you can get away with most insults as you know the other does not mean much when he says it and also because you have also learnt to see the humour in it.

But inevitable you cross the line. You say something, and then you can visibly see the hurt in the other person, however hard he tries to shrug it off. With any other person, or in any other situation, the comment might not have registered.

I guess this is why they say you learn something from everyone. You learn where each one is at, and how far you can push them. No two people are alike and if you treat them and consider them the same, then perils are rather forthcoming.
